Jon L. Fleming M.D. ( ‘ 75 ) has been alumnus chapter advisor since 1987. He is a 1975 graduate of Alpha Mu and Iowa State University receiving a degree in Meteorology. He has also received advanced degrees in the Colleges of Medicine at the following institutions – University of Iowa ( 1979 – MD ), University of Kansas ( 1983 – Internal Medicine and Chief Resident ), and Mayo Clinic ( 1986 – Gastroenterology Fellowship ).
He is involved in a multitude of university and community activities and is the recipient of numerous awards – including The Earl D. Rhodes “Theta Chi for Life Award”, the Iowa State University Alumni Medal, Mary Greeley Medical Center’s Innovation and Excellence in Medical Practice Award, and Cy’s Favorite Alum. Most recently, he was inducted into the Iowa State Greek Communities Hall of Fame for his dedication to Theta Chi and the Ames community.
Brother Fleming has been comprehensively involved with all things Alpha Mu for the past 28 years, highlighted by heading the capital campaign to rebuild the chapter house after a devastating fire in 1996. But his greatest passion is advising and preparing the undergraduate members for ” life after college ” as well as planning alumni events .
Doctor Fleming recently retired from a 26 year practice in Gastroenterology at Ames’ McFarland Clinic.
